CBD for Insomnia

Last Updated on June 3, 2020 by Maxwell Harris

In Europe alone, one in ten people suffer from sleep problems. They do not come to rest in the evening, wake up several times at night or too early.

This restlessness can be caused by stress, muscle tension or pain. But sleep is very important for the organism. The body recovers during sleep because all receptors that are responsible for regeneration are activated.

In addition, sleep is an active recovery process, and everything learned during the day is revised at night. Lack of sleep can also lead to serious mental and physical problems.

In order to avoid bad consequences, one should act in time. Instead of using conventional tablets or other chemical agents, you should be aware that they let the body fall asleep, but attack the stomach and other organs over a longer period of time and have a high addictive potential. Therefore, CBD is a very good and natural remedy for eliminating sleep disorders.

How does CBD work?

Alongside THC, CBD is probably the best-known active ingredient in the hemp plant (Cannabis Sativa). But unlike THC, CBD is not psychoactive, which means that there is no intoxication.

Cannabidiol binds to the receptors of the body’s endocannabinoid system and has a general calming, antispasmodic and analgesic effect. The body can relax, which reduces stress and makes it easier to fall asleep.

One should take the oil right before going to bed so that it can develop its full effect even during sleep. If CBD is taken in the form of capsules, the active ingredient unfolds its full effect after approx. 20 min. Because the cannabidiol is spread through the stomach lining in the body. In addition, the capsules are particularly suitable for people who do not like the taste of the oil. Of course, the CBD can also be instilled directly under the tongue as oil, which means that the effect is quicker.

How to dose CBD

The dosage of the oil depends on the symptoms. Users who take the oil for relaxation are usually satisfied with 1 to 2 drops of  5% oil.

For pain relief, 4-6 drops of the oil are recommended.

For sleep problems, most users resort to a dosage of 5 to 10 mg, depending on how serious the disorder is.

CBD in combination with melatonin

Melatonin is a substance that is produced by the body in the pineal gland and controls the body’s sleep-wake rhythm. The melatonin level in the body regulates itself through brightness and darkness. In the evening when it gets dark, the body starts to release melatonin, which makes us tired. In the morning, when it gets light, the melatonin slowly breaks down and you wake up. However, this rhythm is weakened in many people, which is why melatonin is often present in sleeping pills.

A combination of cannabidiol and melatonin is the perfect solution for sleep problems. The CBD relaxes and calms the body, while at the same time the body is supported by the addition of melatonin and thus enables sleep through.
